A whole month!

Writer's picture: Jenn HowellJenn Howell

So we began our journey in the camper Feb 28th. This Sunday marked a month we’ve lived full time in our camper.

Boy have we increased our skill set!

In just the first two days we learned how to hook this bad boy up, tow it, park it, hook up all the hoses(sewer & water) and cords(electric).

We broke stuff, fixed stuff, realized we needed a bunch of stuff that we didn’t even know existed. Like a heated water hose! Did y’all know that was a thing?

Then there was the “where do we put our coffee pot” dilemma. Because folks, the Howells without coffee IS NOT PRETTY! We are coffee people. We drink it to wake up, to enjoy, to sit with during evening conversation, and the list goes on. So we ordered a cute shelf. I transformed it into a coffee bar & BAM, all is right in the world again.

And then on to the next, what in the world?

Camper Mattresses! It seems they are made from the thinnest, most uncomfortable material known to man. They looked pretty and they even had a velvety cover on them but the boys described them as like sleeping on a 2X4. So Amazon saved the day once again! So pretty much after night two in the camper(you know after the excitement wore off)we ordered new memory foam mattresses. Luckily the boys could sleep on the fold out couches until they arrived. Yes, they were that terrible! But also, the couches are pretty comfy from what I hear.

We measured twice(because camper beds are very weird sizes) and ordered once. However, we did not consider the thickness of the mattresses and the ceiling height so poor Jami has very little head clearance in his bunk. Unfortunately he learned this the hard way and has mentioned sleeping with a helmet on a few times. Oh well, it’s an adjustment to say the least.

And this doesn’t even begin to touch the story about the king size mattress in our bedroom. Wheww! That’s a tale for another day!

Overall, there were lots of highs and a few lows(mostly dealing with the sale of the house). We’ve adjusted nicely and of course are still figuring out things along the way.

We thoroughly enjoy the time in nature, long walks, beautiful sunsets, copious family time and way less screens. We won’t do this forever. We do hope to find our dream house in the near future but for now, we are enjoying our journey and all of the memories we are making along the way.

The family time is memories made and the kids will always look back and only remember the good and laugh at the obstacles you overcame. Can't wait until the next update.

The family time really is great! Our family isn’t new to obstacles, unfortunately. But I will say figuring it out together has really brought us closer together.
